Nature and Museum Pics
These are pictures of locations within 100 miles of where I reside.
I will not discount the beautiful vistas and scenery of other States, but allow me to gush over some of the landscapes and venues in Northern Mississippi and Southwest Tennessee!
ARKABUTLA LAKE
One of my favorite places is Arkabutla Lake , 11 miles southwest of Hernando, Mississippi and approximately 28 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee. At this Corps of Engineers' Lake and facilities, there are 2 swimming beaches, 46 primitive campsites, 8 boat ramps---and a disc golf course. What I like most, however, are the hiking trails. The two pics below were taken from my cell phone in Sept.2014. I was on the 5 mile trail on the Western side of Arkabutla, the Outlet Channel section.
Sparkling sunshine, pristine water, lush foliage---and the only sounds which could be heard were from various insects and chirping birds. The hike was an almost intoxicating experience.

A side note: The northern fringe of Arkabutla contains the ARK Trail, approximately 1.8 miles of leisurely walking. A portion of the ARK Trail grounds will eventually be home to a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
One of the Arkabutla Lake beaches is shortly beyond the Outlet Channel section. Picnic areas are plentiful in areas adjoining the beach. Periodically, there is vivid blue sky, as this picture indicates. The Lake is 'officially' located at: 3905 Arkabutla Dam Rd Coldwater, MS 38618-6548 My wife Jeanne, the true photographer in the family, took this shot---and most of the pics on this page.

A cherished event at Arkabutla is the annual Eagle Fest Saturday the end of September.
Vendors and animal trainers and wildlife enthusiasts converge on the Western area of the Lake. Of course, eagles highlight this celebration. The Fest is not exclusively about entertainment, however. People are informed as to the devastating effects of pollution and toxic waste in our rivers, streams and oceans.
The eagle you see here with the deformed beak was retrieved at a young age from a contaminated body of water.
I do not understand how polluting the created order can bring honor to the Creator Who made it.
STRAWBERRY PLAINS AUDUBON
The Strawberry Plains Audubon Center is a few miles north of Holly Springs, Mississippi. The Center offers nearly 2600 acres of natural and preserved environment comprised of creeks, fields, gardens and 14 miles of nature trails. Open 8-4 Tue.through Sat. By paying a measly $3, you can stroll the grounds for a solid 8 hours. For an additional $5, you can tour the restored antebellum home.
TUNICA RIVERPARK
The Tunica Riverpark and Museum, situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, is a 168 acre complex featuring nature trails along the riverfront, a river overlook, and a museum and interpretive center. The Museum costs $10 per person. If you simply wish to hike the 1.5 and 3 mile trails through the wetlands, or lounge on the rocking chairs as you watch the barges pass by---that will cost you absolutely nothing. Open Tue.through Sun., 10-5.
CEDAR HILL FARM
I've had the wonderful privilege of working as a tractor driver at Cedar Hill Farm. This family operated farm hosts agricultural field trips, weddings and seasonal events. The kindness of the staff is phenomenal.
During the Spring and Fall months, the scenery and flora at Cedar Hill are stunning!

CHUCALISSA A nature trail, earthen Indian mounds and an arboretum can all be experienced at the C.H.Nash Museum at Chucalissa. Located on the southwest perimeter of Memphis, this Museum is operated by the University of Memphis. |
SHILOH
You will have an educational and sobering experience at the Shiloh National Military Park, approximately 10 miles Southwest of Savannah, Tenn. The 4200 acre battlefield preserves the site of the first major Western battle of the Civil War. This park is comprised of 156 monuments, 200+ cannons, a national cemetery and more than 600 tablets.
MUD ISLAND
On the west side of Memphis, the Mud Island River Park features a 2000 foot scale model of the Mississippi River flowing from Cairo, Illinois 954 miles south to the Gulf of Mexico. In the model, 30" represents one mile of the Mississippi River. Twenty cities are mapped along the Riverwalk. Concrete wedges locate the main rivers flowing into the Mississippi or show river engineering structures such as floodways. There are four watershed walls which map the entire drainage area of the Mississippi River. The model empties into an acre size Gulf of Mexico pool. There are 1, 746, 4’ x 8’ concrete sections, which were installed and positioned to allow the water to flow from north to south.

Political and Social Matters
Be advised, these are from a Conservative viewpoint. Those who are Liberal and/or 'easily offended' might want to bypass these posters and cartoons.
We are living in a time when anyone remotely conservative or patriotic is stereotyped as a menace to America. Conservatives and patriots--- that is, those who are Not enthusiastic about the violence and brutality of the Woke agenda-- are mocked, maligned, harassed, humiliated, threatened and often bullied/abused into silence. In some cases, they lose their jobs for calling into question the motives and methods of BLM. There is a word for all of this: "Persecution".
